This Module is taught by William (Bill) Tara. Bill has been an advocate of a natural approach to health care for over 40 years. He was the founder and director of the world pioneering ‘Community Health Foundation’ in Old Street, London from the mid 70’s. This educational institute was the first of its kind in the world - a blend of eastern and western philosophy on health and how to create a ‘better world’.
He has given seminars on natural health care in over 20 countries and served on the faculties of the Kushi Institutes in England and America, the Kiental Institute in Switzerland, and Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Bill authored several books on the Macrobiotic approach to health, including “Macrobiotics and Human Behavior”. He has recently published “Natural Body, Natural Mind”. We are very proud and honored to have him as a faculty member.
His teaching addresses the huge gap in our social understanding of how to create health in the individual and in society as a whole. The issue of health is one that spans every frontier of human life. It permeates our biology, our intellect and our spirit; it animates both emotion and action. In this Module you will discover how creating personal health may be the most important action in saving the environment and creating a world that works for everyone.
This class will explore the following topics through discussion, personal reflection and group process:
- Macrobiotics as complete system of approach to life in general
- Macrobiotic practice for modern times
- Self generated healing - Internal Ecology
- The relationship between physical, emotional and spiritual health
- Creating a Human Ecology
- The whole process of working with clients on their diet and lifestyle
- The 5 personality types: how to recognize them and the strategies to effectively work with each type to achieve the desired goals
For this module you will receive a handout to follow Bill’s PowerPoint presentations.
“The macrobiotic way of life is a path towards health. It involves eating a diet of wholesome, ecological foods. It includes also nourishing the body with good water, air and energy, and exercising and resting it properly. The macrobiotic way of life includes also the nourishment and exercise of each of the other human bodies - aesthetic, emotional, intellectual, social, ideological, and spiritual. The wholeness of each is vitally important and we must cultivate them all with equal care and energy.” - Ronald Kotzsch: Macrobiotics - Beyond Food, 1988
“Infinity is your mother that you came from. Your origin. We came here to a place called Earth - we landed on the earth for a picnic. We came to the earth as a picnic from the infinite world. We have to enjoy the picnic. If you know the secret of health and observe it, then you will gain freedom and independence. How wonderful life is if you apply this principle of life by yourself. A small seed, which has neither force not arms, accepts conditions of darkness, pressure, cold and dampness. Instead of complaining or blaming others, it uses these conditions as sources of energy. In the same way, man can lead a free life and be at peace with himself”
-George Oshawa, poet and philosopher. Founder of the Macrobiotic Movement that pioneered organic farming and the modern day natural foods industry in the west (along with the Rudolf Steiner Movement)“A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the “Universe,” a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separate from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.” —Albert Einstein (1879–1955)
“Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of men and deny equal privileges to others: The Constitution of this Republic should make a special privilege for medical freedom as well as religious freedom. “ - Dr. Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence
